Nothing changes on the LED's when I hit the BANG, It just stays on the original colour uploaded to the 1st pixel. Upload to arduino worked fine - and first pixel lights up as directed from code. Have downloaded both patches, and followed the instructions from these posts (see below) - from Dec 6. Nothing fancy required, just want to be able to set them using sliders or number boxes. You can control nearly anything in Live, and you can dynamically create objects and patch things in Max, among other things. I did not find the documentation was very useful.

But poly patches require more care than other kinds of patches. I recommend practicing with a simple polyphonic patch and gradually grow it. "poly~" management can get a little tricky. Instead of changing parameters with signals, use messages, and then use a "line~" object to slew the parameter changes to eliminate stepping. There's a guide to Max best practices somewhere but I can't find it right now ( this is a good thread though). Every parameter change goes through the message inlet like "gain 0.5" and "route" is used internally to handle where the message should go (you can even do nested routing this way-for example: "somesynth gain 0.5"). Every subpatch (and sub-subpatch, etc.) gets n signal inlets and outlets and exactly one message inlet and outlet. I prefer to structure large patches with the UI and signal path split out into their own subpatches. "Projects" are the way to go now, since you can now export Maxforlive patches directly from a project. Signals aren't really affected by the right-to-left flow.Ĭonsidering enabling Overdrive to make sure that messages get sent as quickly as possible. Signals can't feed back into themselves, except inside a gen~ patch, or if you run a signal into "del~ 1" before feeding it back. The only big thing is to keep in mind the differences between signals, messages, and Jitter matrices (yellow, gray, and green wires). Googling for "max 7 whatever" or "max msp whatever" usually gets me what I'm looking for. Be sure to check out BEAP, Jitter (and Syphon), and don't forget to check out the forums, toolbox (I just found this MIDI learn thing the other day), and package manager.
